Payoff Systems
Flyer Payoffs
The Flyer payoff equipment comprises 3 main elements:
The Brake
The Arm
The Support
Each element can be provided using a wide variety of systems and configurations.
In all applications, it is the selection of the appropriate method and combination of elements which offers the best results.
Arms
The greatest care is required in selecting the correct type of arm to suit the application. Wire/cable type and diameter, reel size type, and orientation and payoff speed will all influence the decision.
Maldron offers over 50 types of arms with either ceramic eyelets or pulleys to suit all applications from fine single wires to multiwire and insulates. We are also able to modify this range to offer specials.
Support Systems
The simplest Support Method is to mount the flyer in the bore of the reel with the reel on the floor.
Where it is required to support the flyer above the reel, or support the reel(s) in a frame, the illustrations below demonstrate our range.
Available Systems
Brakes
Hysteresis brakes: A magnetic coupling comprising a powerful, permanent magnet disc mounted opposite a special alloy steel (hysteresis) plate. The hysteresis loop formed with the special alloy causes torque which can be varied by adjusting the gap between the two components.
Electromagnetic powder breaks: A coupling comprising an inner armature and an outer induction ring. Between the inner and outer components is a reservoir of magnetic particles whose viscosity is varied by application of electrical current. This adjustment of viscosity impacts the torque.
Belt breaks: A rotating drum with a fixed belt pulled around the circumference. The amount of tension in the Belt will determine the extent of braking and can be affected using pre-tensioning or dynamic feedback methods.
